| Better Days |
[Dec. 9th, 2006|03:36 pm] |
Well my soul checked out missing as I sat listening To the hours and minutes tickin' away Yeah, just sittin' around waitin' for my life to begin While it was all just slippin' away. I'm tired of waitin' for tomorrow to come Or that train to come roarin' 'round the bend I got a new suit of clothes a pretty red rose And a woman I can call my friend
These are better days baby Yeah there's better days shining through These are better days baby Better days with a girl like you
Well I took a piss at fortune's sweet kiss It's like eatin' caviar and dirt It's a sad funny ending to find yourself pretending A rich man in a poor man's shirt Now my ass was draggin' when from a passin' gypsy wagon Your heart like a diamond shone Tonight I'm layin' in your arms carvin' lucky charms Out of these hard luck bones
These are better days baby These are better days it's true These are better days There's better days shining through
Now a life of leisure and a pirate's treasure Don't make much for tragedy But it's a sad man my friend who's livin' in his own skin And can't stand the company Every fool's got a reason to feelin' sorry for himself And turn his heart to stone Tonight this fool's halfway to heaven and just a mile outta hell And I feel like I'm comin' home
These are better days baby There's better days shining through These are better days Better days with a girl like you
These are better days baby These are better days it's true These are better days Better days are shining through

-----
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

"...many Americans have lost confidence in what their Government has told them about our policy. The American people cannot and should not be asked to support a policy which involves the overriding issues of war and peace unless they know the truth about that policy."
You said it, Mr. President... NIXON!
Somehow, I don't think that 37 years from now (or, EVER!) anybody will be researching George W. Bush to find words of his wisdom to apply to the great issues of that day... |

| Ecclesiastes 9:1-4 |
[Feb. 12th, 2006|01:15 pm] |
So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him. All share a common destiny—the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not.
As it is with the good man, so with the sinner; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.
This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. Anyone who is among the living has hope —even a live dog is better off than a dead lion! |

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. |

But I had to laugh when President Bush today jokingly said: "I want to thank the Canadian people who came out to wave, with all five fingers, for their hospitality", in a reference to the much greater number of Canadian people who saluted him with four fewer fingers as his motorcade wend its way through the streets of Ottawa. |

| | Om... | ] | Live in joy, In love, Even among those who hate.
Live in joy, In health, Even among the afflicted.
Live in joy, In peace, Even among the troubled.
Live in joy, Without possessions, Like the shining ones.
The winner sows hatred Because the loser suffers. Let go of winning and losing And find joy.
There is no fire like passion, No crime like hatred, No sorrow like separation, No sickness like hunger, And no joy like the joy of freedom.
Health, contentment and trust Are your greatest possessions, And freedom your greatest joy.
Look within. Be still. Free from fear and attachment, Know the sweet joy of the way.
How joyful to look upon the awakened And to keep company with the wise.
How long the road to the man Who travels with a fool. But whoever follow those who follow the way Discovers his family, and is filled with joy.
Follow then the shining ones, The wise, the awakened, the loving, For they know how to work and forbear.
Follow them As the moon follows the path of the stars.

| | Opening music: Smell of Camphor Fragrance of Jasmine | ] | A tale of two neighbors, one rich, the other poor...
One day the poor neighbor and his wife worshipped Ganesha in their home, with offerings of sesame seeds and sugar. In the middle of the night, they were awakended by a voice. 'I am pleased with you,' it said. When the couple asked who it was, the voice replied, 'It is I, Chauth Gosain,' meaning Ganesha. Suspecting that the voice might actually belong to a thief, the wife asked what the intruder wanted. He inquired where he might relieve himself. Terrified, the couple told him to use the corner of the room. When the first light of day appeared, the frightened couple found piles of gold and jewels in the corner and deeply regretted that they had treated the god so discourteously.
The poor couple became rich overnight. And when the rich neighbor asked how this had come about, the couple told him of the occurences of that miraculous night.
The rich neighbor listened intently to the story and inquired in detail about the procedures of worship the poor man had followed to achieve such impressive results. Soon thereafter, the rich man and his wife worshipped Ganesha in exacly the same way. In the middle of the night, the same voice made the same request. The rich couple gladly invited the intruder to relieve himself in the corner of the room. But when dawn broke, the couple was dismayed to find their room filled with human excrement, flooded with urine and giving forth a horrible stench...

[Oct. 17th, 2004|10:12 pm] |
No matter what it is, there is nothing that cannot be done. If one manifests the determination, he can move heaven and earth as he pleases. But because man is pluckless, he cannot set his mind to it. Moving heaven and earth without putting forth effort is simply a matter of concentration.

| | Vedic chants | ] | Seeing your infinite form with many mouths, eyes, arms, thighs, feet, stomachs, and many fearful teeth; the worlds are trembling with fear and so do I, O mighty Lord.
Seeing Your great effulgent and various-colored form touching the sky; Your mouth wide open and large shining eyes; I am frightened and find neither peace nor courage, O Krishna.
Seeing Your mouths, with fearful teeth, glowing like fires of cosmic dissolution, I lose my sense of direction and find no comfort. Have mercy on me! O Lord of gods, refuge of the universe.
The sons of Dhritarashtra along with the hosts of kings; Bhishma, Drona, and Karna together with chief warriors on our side are also quickly entering into Your fearful mouths having terrible teeth. Some are seen caught in between the teeth with their heads crushed.
As many torrents of the rivers rush toward the ocean, similarly, those warriors of the mortal world are entering Your blazing mouths.
As moths rush with great speed into the blazing flame for destruction, similarly all these people are rapidly rushing into Your mouths for destruction.
You are licking up all the worlds with Your flaming mouths, swallowing them from all sides. Your powerful radiance is burning the entire universe, and filling it with splendor, O Krishna.
Tell me who are You in such a fierce form? My salutations to You, O best of gods, be merciful! I wish to understand You, the primal Being, because I do not know Your mission.
The Supreme Lord said: I am time. I am also death. I am the mighty world destroyer, out to destroy. Even without your participation all the warriors standing arrayed in the opposing armies shall cease to exist.
Therefore, get up and attain glory! Conquer your enemies and enjoy a prosperous kingdom. All these warriors have already been destroyed by Me. You are only an instrument, O Arjuna.
Kill Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna, and other great warriors who are already killed by Me. Do not fear. You will certainly conquer the enemies in the battle, therefore, fight!
Sanjaya said: Having heard these words of Krishna; the crowned Arjuna, trembling with folded hands, prostrated with fear and spoke to Krishna in a choked voice.
Arjuna said: Rightly, O Krishna, the world delights and rejoices in glorifying You. Terrified demons flee in all directions. The hosts of Siddhas bow to You in adoration.
Why should they not, O great soul, bow to You, the original creator who is even greater than Brahma? O infinite Lord, O God of gods, O abode of the universe, You are both Sat and Asat, and the imperishable Brahman that is beyond both.
You are the primal God, the most ancient Person. You are the ultimate resort of all the universe. You are the knower, the object of knowledge, and the supreme abode. The entire universe is pervaded by You, O Lord of the infinite form.
You are Vayu, Yama, Agni, Varuna, Shashanka, and Brahma as well as the father of Brahma. Salutations to You a thousand times, and again and again salutations to You.
My salutations to You from front and from behind. O Lord, my obeisances to You from all sides. You are infinite valor and the boundless might. You pervade everything, and therefore You are everywhere and in everything.
Considering You merely as a friend, not knowing Your greatness, I have inadvertently addressed You as O Krishna, O Yadava, O friend; merely out of affection or carelessness.
In whatever way I may have insulted You in jokes; while playing, reposing in bed, sitting, or at meals; when alone, or in front of others; O Krishna, I implore You for forgiveness. |

| | Dr Martin Luther King Jr / Sermon : The American Dream | ] | One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him, ‘Which commandment is the first of all?’
Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is this, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’
Then the scribe said to him, ‘You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that “he is one, and besides him there is no other”; and “to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,” and “to love one’s neighbor as oneself,” —this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.’
When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’ After that no one dared to ask him any question. |

According to the polls, at least five million Americans can’t decide yet who they're going to vote for... I think that people who can’t decide which one of these two ought to be president even before they watched the debates, aren't undecided. They're stupid.
I think you'll all agree with me on that. |
